The Making Of : Dinner Time In Our House

The Making Of : Dinner Time In Our House

I’ve been wanting to take a picture of my whole family of girls for some time but as you can imagine its quite a challenge to get them all in a picture without it looking a mess. The inspiration for this picture came from the street parties held in England normally to celebrate a royal occasion such as the Queens Carnation or Jubilee.   This picture would enable me to get all the girls in in an organised chaos… haha… If you know what I mean! My starting point was the long table and bench. I used two 240cm (94 inches) long pieces of wood for the benches and a plank the same length for the table. I propped the table up with two cylinder containers at each end. I’m not very good at DIY so i made the job as basic as possible! I then put elastic bands down the lengths of the benches to keep the girls in place and crochet needles to help position them at certain angles.     I had to take the picture looking down over the girls in order to get their faces in… some looking up and some looking away in the most natural way as possible.   It took so long to set up that by the time I was finished it was too dark to take the picture so I had to wait for the following day!! The funnest part of setting up this picture was setting the table! As soon as the table cloth was on and the places were set it looked just like a real dinner setting!...

Meet Eileen and Bernadette

Meet Eileen and Bernadette

Let me introduce you to my daughter Bernadette whom I actually call Dolly! She was my first little dolly long before any of the girls came along! I’ve called her Dolly from when she was a baby as she was the sweetest little creature I’d ever seen! I was the older sister to five brothers! My first child was a boy, a darling boy may I add called Christopher so you can imagine how over joyed I was when a little girl finally came along! Dolly has grown up into a beautiful young lady and we share many interests and do most things together! We love going to the ballet, hunting for treasures at car-boot sales and travelling… particularly Hong Kong! Oddly enough one of the things we don’t have in common is the love of dolls! At least not for the moment! When Dolly went off to the University of Arts London – London College of Communications it was her idea that i started an Instagram account. Little did we know it would lead to us publishing our own book. We began the project of ‘The Little Mischiefs’ in December last year. Between the two of us, we make a great team. Dolly is the organised and level headed one who pulls everything together whilst Im engrossed in taking pictures. Last year I was asked to create a behind the scenes film for the Blythe Con Europe. With Dolly’s knowledge of film and photography we were delighted to accept the opportunity! We had great fun filming all over Paris and managed to capture some wonderful moments. Dolly Treasures has brought me so much happiness and...
The Girls’ Clothes And Belongings

The Girls’ Clothes And Belongings

In a house with so many girls there needs to be a place for everything! Every nook and cranny has been filled, every drawer over flowing, and every clothes rail bowing. I have a secret staircase where I stash all the girls’ things. This is a real treasure trove and fills me with delight every time I’m in there. With a house full of girls comes a house full of little furry friends. Hardly a day goes by where the girls don’t bring in a stray cat or dog off of the street and of course these need a home too. All the little furry friends sit on a shelf so they can see what’s going on. They don’t like to be locked away and most of the time they’re not sitting on the shelf at all but getting dragged into all sorts of mischief with the girls!   Most of the girls’ clothes and shoes have an old fashioned look to them so I like to store everything in old vintage cabinets and drawers. These little drawers are perfect for neatly storing shoes because of all the compartments! In the top drawer I store all the girl’s 1950’s Barbie Ballerina tutus and bags. Amongst the girls’ things I keep all my haberdashery which I’ve collected for years. Silk ribbons, vintage cotton reals, silk threads and cards of antique lace! The list goes on and on! These things are such a feast for the eyes that I like to keep them on display where I can see and admire them.       These old office drawers are perfect for...
